Biography of the Greek Prime Minister- Konstantinos Karamanlis-

(Attorney-International Relations expert)
Born in Athens in 1956.
Studied Law at Athens University and attended post-graduate studies at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in the USA.
Nephiew and namesake of the former president of the Republic and New Democracy (ND) founder, he is a member of the Society of Macedonian Studies and life-member of the “Konstantinos G. Karamanlis” foundation.
Joined the ND party youth organisation in 1974.
Elected president of the peace organisation KIPAEA and the Greek Center for the Promotion of European Unification “Europe ’92”, in 1986.
Entered law practise and became contributor to the Athens weekly “Oikonokikos Tachidromos”, in 1987.
First elected to parliament in the first electoral district of Thessaloniki, in 1989.
Elected Secretary of Parliament and ND secretary of political strategy, also in 1989.
Elected member of the ND central committe in 1994.
Elected party leader at the 4th ND party congress, in 1997.
Since 1999, he serves as a vice-president of the European People’s Party (EPP) and in June 2002 was elected vice president of the International Democrat Union during the summit of the centre-right and Christian Democrat parties in Washington.
He won a comfortable victory in the March 7 2004 general elections over rival PASOK’s leader Georgios Papandreou (45,4% VS 40,5%).
Konstantinos (Kostas) Karamanlis is married to Anastasia Pazaiti and has a son and a daugther.
